Anthology Interview with Claire Davon

Image of a blonde woman leaning over and smiling. She's wearing a blue v-neck top.By day, Claire Davon works in distribution for a major movie studio, by night she’s a writer (well, actually early morning, which is her preferred writing time). She also does animal rescue, and enjoys the California sunshine.

Claire’s short story, “Chase Through the Wormhole,” a science fiction romance, is in the upcoming FF & P anthology, Lure of the Hunt. The anthology is set to be published on October 22, 2024.

Summarize your story in 75 words or less.

On the run from a possessive galactic prince, Proxima has evaded every bounty hunter—except the only one who knows her home planet’s secret location.

Roark doesn’t are about the money, but his relentless pursuit could leave them—and Proxima’s entire home planet—vulnerable to the prince’s wrath…

What’s a favorite part of your story?

When Proxima and Roark are in space seeing the Galactic space cruiser. It felt very Star Wars Han/Leia!

What/who was the inspiration for your story?

I have had this idea for a single planet solar system for a while and when the “hunt” theme for this anthology was decided on, the idea just sort of came to me. There’s only one wormhole in and out of the system, so it’s both a haven and a trap.

Name three of your favorite sci-fi or fantasy authors.

Anne McCaffrey, Tanith Lee, Jacqueline Carey.

If you could meet anyone, imaginary or real, in sci-fi or fantasy, who would it be and why?

I’d have loved to be able to spend time talking to Arthur C. Clarke back in those early days. What an imagination on that man! I was fortunate enough to meet Anne McCaffrey several times in the 70s/early 80s, and count myself very lucky for that.

You’re stranded on a desert island, and you can only have one book. Which book do you bring with you and why?

A blank one. That way I can create my own stories.

Tell us about your latest release(s) and what’s coming next for you.

On August 28th, Cadence, the third in my Lyrical Interludes contemporary romance series, comes out. Each book of this series is a standalone, but have characters from the other books. I am very excited for the public to be able to read the adventures of Kai and Jessica and their path to love.
