Anthology Interview with Fenley Grant

Image of a woman with dark long hai wearing a blue v neck top and a dark colored blazerGrowing up an Army brat, Fenley’s lived in many places. She now calls the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas home, where she, thankfully, rarely shovels snow. New people and experiences triggered Fenley’s love of unique characters and an interesting world build, and she loves most creative outlets…except for cooking. Not a chef.

Fenley’s short story, “The Mission: Search for Survivors,” is in the upcoming FF & P sci-fi anthology, Lure of the Hunt. The anthology is set to publish on October 22, 2024.

Summarize your story in 75 words or less:

Humanity’s future is on the line, and Dr. Jane Carter’s mission is clear—search for the survivors of the last century’s wars, diseases, and extensive genetic manipulations—in the hopes that some of those found are fertile.

The security team sent along to protect her and her crew, led by Captain Darren Davis, prove to be as risky as the mission…especially when the stern captain poses the biggest danger to her…by stealing her heart.

What’s a favorite part of your story?

When Dr. Jane Carter’s assistant, Roan, says that Jane, a scientist, doesn’t speak romance—it might as well be a dead language for her.

What/who was the inspiration for your story?

I write a time travel series and thought it would be fun to see the two-centuries-prior, uncloned version of the woman who is the antagonist in the first novel in the series show up as the protagonist in this story.

Name three of your favorite sci-fi or fantasy authors.

I’m partial to urban fantasy, so I’d have to say my top three are:

  • Ilona Andrews
  • Patricia Briggs
  • Anne Bishop

If you could meet anyone, imaginary or real, in sci-fi or fantasy, who would it be and why?

Aragorn, from Lord of the Rings, because I love a man who knows how to handle his sword. Take that any way you like.

You’re stranded on a desert island, and you can only have one book. Which book do you bring with you and why?

Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen. My uncle gave me the book on my tenth birthday, and it inspired my love of romance and a good “opposites attract/enemies to lovers” set of tropes.

Tell us about your latest release(s) and what’s coming next for you.

I write stories with four other authors in a shared-world series, the Enchanted Rock Immortals. My next release, scheduled for December 3, 2024, is Jingled, Jangled, and Jinxed: A Love Story, and it’s set in the paranormal Enchanted Rock Immortals world. I’m also working on my next solo series right now, Warrior Wolves of Texas, and hope to launch book one, Warrior of Eden, in 2025.
