Image of a middle aged woman in a black shirt, posing with her head on her right hand.Jaylee Austin loves to explore all forms of mythology. She collects crystals, oracle cards, houseplants, and two adorable creatures that love to pounce themselves right in the middle of her desk. Jaylee currently spends her time writing romantic fantasy novels that take you on an adventure where the mystical meets the modern world.

Jaylee’s short story, “Chasing Destiny: A Cyborg Romance,” is in the Lure of the Hunt anthology produced by FF & P. The anthology is scheduled to be released on October 22, 2024.

Summarize your story in 75 words or less.

In “Chasing Destiny: A Cyborg Romance,” Jaxon, a skilled cyborg bounty hunter, crosses paths with Luna, a brilliant scientist with whom he shares an instant connection and a second chance at love. As they navigate a treacherous mission together, their conflicting views on technology and ethics threaten to tear them apart. But when faced with betrayal and a race against time to save Luna’s research, Jaxon must choose between loyalty and love.

What’s a favorite part of your story?

The relationship with cyborg hunter and his pug:

I finally managed to pry open the heel and retrieve a tiny data chip nestled inside, glowing faintly with encoded secrets. “Found your little treasure.” I plucked the chip with ease. “My pup’s got a nose for trouble, sniffing out tech hidden anywhere on the body.”

“Jaxon Thornhart and his cyborg mutt,” the man tried to salvage some bravado.“What a joke.”

What/who was the inspiration for your story?

I love any type of punk stories and I’m a proud owner of a stubborn, loveable pug who travels the universe with me. She finds her way into many of my books. Matilda even has her own blog of adventures in my monthly newsletter.

Name three of your favorite sci-fi or fantasy authors.

Jonathan Yaniz, Shelly Laurensten, and Julie Huss.

If you could meet anyone, imaginary or real, in sci-fi or fantasy, who would it be and why?

Julie Huss because hands down she is my favorite all time author and she is who I envision myself to be when I finish growing up. (Ha, Ha, I’m 63). I enjoy her style, her energy, and what she offers readers. One day I’d really like to meet and have a glass of wine and talk book shit. If you know Huss, you get the reference.

You’re stranded on a desert island, and you can only have one book. Which book do you bring with you and why?

Smile for No Good Reason by Dr. Lee Jampolsky.

Tell us about your latest release(s) and what’s coming next for you.

I’m releasing two short stories: One an historical time travel to 1925: Halloween Anthology and of course, “Chasing Destiny: A Cyborg Romance.”

I’ve just released a boxset Time to Travel, a romantasy adventure set in Sedona, Arizona. In early 2025, I’m releasing Bound By Destiny and Tattooed Justice which are part of the archangel/Sarim prince series. Also in the beginning of 2025, I’ll release a boxset of books 1 – 3 in the Archangel Cursed series.
