New Member Interview with Dave Shearon

I’m retired from a career in state bar administration and positive psychology training and am writing as a hobby.

Do you write full time or part-time?
Retired, right? Nothing is full time with me!

What brought you to FF &P?
Oddly enough, the RWA bankruptcy. I did a little work in the field when I was practicing and always thought it was fascinating. So, after reading about RWA’s Chapter 11, I wanted to see how things were going and decided to join. Plus, association management was very close to my day job for 24 years.

What do you hope to get out of FF & P?
Meet some people, learn some stuff, have fun.

What genres do you write?
Currently, sci-fi romance.

Are you traditional, hybrid, or indie published? Why did you go this route?
Not published yet.

If you’re not published, which route do you plan on taking?
I can’t imagine my work will be interesting to publishers, so likely indie without a lot of marketing effort from me. Running a personal website or social media campaigns isn’t something I want to add to my retirement. Did enough of that when I was consulting.

Do you have any odd/strange/fascinating rejection stories to share?
Not yet, but looking forward to them!

What is your writing routine like?
Works best when I write first thing in the morning. If I get a good start, the rest of the day flows.

Name three of your favorite sci-fi or fantasy authors.
Robert Heinlein (yeah, I know, Duh!), Lois McMaster Bujold, and Pam Uphoff.

If you could meet anyone, imaginary or real, in sci-fi or fantasy, who would it be and why?
Mycroft Holmes from The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress. My current work has an AI who names himself Adam Terra after Mycroft’s public persona and plays the role of the “surprise baby” in a cowboy’s surprise baby romance (with a princess for the female love interest).

You’re stranded on a desert island, and you can only have one book. Which book do you bring with you and why?
Wilderness Survival for Dummies. (Don’t know if it’s a real book, but I’d need it!)

Tell us about your latest release(s) and what’s coming next for you.
I mentioned my current WIP above. I plan to finish it by year end and start on the next in the series next year which will feature the Princesses next older brother and a VRMMORPG game designer.

How can readers find you online?
Yeah, I’ll get there, eventually, but right now it’s not a priority.
