Please tell our readers a bit about yourself in 50 words or less.
I’m Sarah Westill, I live in Alabama. My husband is US Army retired, our oldest son serves in ministry, and our youngest son is currently dragging himself through his sophomore year of high school. Along with writing, I’m a cover art designer of fourteen years (as Elaina Lee), and a photographer.
Do you write full time or part-time?
Whenever I can… It’s not paying the bills, so part-time, I guess.
What brought you to FF &P?
To hopefully connect with other writers in my genre.
What do you hope to get out of FF & P?
I have found writers who don’t read in paranormal, or sci-fi, or fantasy, don’t always understand the nuances in the genre. I’m hoping to connect with like-minded writers who can help me become a stronger writer in my genre.
What genres do you write?
Paranormal Dystopian Romance
Are you traditional, hybrid, or indie published? Why did you go this route?
I’m indie published. I opted to go this route for multiple reasons. Working in the industry has given me a bit of a back-room glimpse and the only benefit of traditional, or even hybrid publishing I could find, was the immediate access to a built-in readership. Which is nice. But all the marketing falls to the author, the same as being indie published, and you lose any creative control over your work. I wanted to maintain control of the process, from what my cover art would be, to the world I’m building and what it looks like.
Do you have any odd/strange/fascinating rejection stories to share?
No, I haven’t submitted to agents or presses since before the big indie-press crash when Amazon announced the KDP program. Long time.
What is your writing routine like?
I try to dedicate Tuesdays and Thursday to writing as much as I can. The rest of the week is whenever I manage to drag my laptop onto my lap and get some sentences down. If I’m really lucky, I’ll manage an entire paragraph. Homeschooling through high school is not for the faint of heart…
Name three of your favorite sci-fi or fantasy authors.
Ilona Andrews, Lara Adrian, Gena Showalter
If you could meet anyone, imaginary or real, in sci-fi or fantasy, who would it be and why?
Probably Dina from Innkeeper Chronicles. She controls a house that has access to the universe, is mated to an alien werewolf, and has a high-tech alien vampire for a brother-in-law…
You’re stranded on a desert island, and you can only have one book. Which book do you bring with you and why?
Series reader only, can’t pick just one!
Tell us about your latest release(s) and what’s coming next for you.
I released the final book in my Guardians of Sziveria series in July. My next release will be for my serial series, Bella and the Beast Master and will be the fifth installment. Next is a new series following the unmated/unmarried siblings of a very large family, The Ralston Brothers.
