New Member Interview with Sophie Greene

Image of a woman wearing a beige blazer with her arms crossedPlease tell our readers a bit about yourself in 50 words or less.
I’m originally from Texas, but I joined the Air Force when I was 18, so I’ve moved around quite a bit during the last 24 years. I’m married, I have 2 doggos, and I’ve recently retired from the military. I can’t wait to meet the community!

Do you write full-time or part-time?
Part-time (but the dream is full-time)

What brought you to FF &P?
I’m desperate to define my genre better AND find comps to my work for when I start querying. Plus, I’d love to meet folks writing in the genre.

What do you hope to get out of FF & P?
See answer to question 2, lol

What genres do you write?
I think my niche is romantic futuristic. My first work focuses on a love story set about 150 to 200 years in the future. It’s not like Jetson territory, but rather near reality with a new government determined to be better than who we are now. I think I’ll have to say this a million times, but it is NOT a dystopia—it’s post dystopia, though there is still much conflict to be had!

Are you traditional, hybrid, or indie published? Why did you go this route?
I’m not published yet.

If you’re not published, which route do you plan on taking?
I have a draft manuscript that I’m going back through to pre-edit edit. I plan on trying to go traditional, and if that doesn’t pan out, maybe self-publish – but I’ll listen to advice on the matter.

Do you have any odd/strange/fascinating rejection stories to share?
Not yet, but give me some time.

What is your writing routine like?
I write for an hour in the morning before work, and all weekend if I can help it.

Name three of your favorite sci-fi or fantasy authors.
John Scalzi, Dennis E. Taylor, Andy Weir.

If you could meet anyone, imaginary or real, in sci-fi or fantasy, who would it be and why?
Tom Hiddleston – I love that guy. He’s a great actor, and I hear he’s a pretty cool dude.

You’re stranded on a desert island, and you can only have one book. Which book do you bring with you and why?
A book on how to survive on a deserted island – I know, I’m the worst.

Tell us about your latest release(s) and what’s coming next for you.
I already have ideas for the sequel to my first book. Once I’m done self-editing, I’ll move on to that.

How can readers find you online?
I’m not all that active yet, though I will eventually develop an Instagram for my pen name.
