New Member Spotlight with Kevin Treadway

Profile pic of Kevin TreadwayKevin Treadway is a one-time filmmaker and animator who fell in love with writing and then again with the romance genre. A hopeless romantic always falling in love? Typical. His deepest love is for his wife, with whom he’s been sharing a HEA for over twenty years.

What brought you to FF & P?

I’m a huge fan of paranormal, fantasy, and sci-fi romance, and it’s what I enjoy writing. I like when story worlds are unexpected or entertaining. I read historicals for the same reason.

What do you hope to get out of FF & P?

I’d love to find a community of authors who enjoy the same stories and understand the same struggles.

Name your top three favorite authors. (Any genre, living or dead)

The list can wobble and warp, but let’s go with William Gibson, Nalini Singh, and Alice Coldbreath.

You’re stranded on a desert island, and you can only have one book. Which book do you bring with you and why?

It would probably be one of those highly lauded doorstop-sized “how to write fiction” tomes. Without actual stories to devour, I might manage to get through one!

What genres do you write?

I write fantasy and paranormal, with occasional forays into romantic suspense and sci-fi.

Are you traditional, hybrid, or indie published? Why did you go this route?

I’m still interested in the traditional path, but I’m focused on indie publishing for the time being. I belong to a small community for male romance fans (Romance for Men), and that influenced my decision to go the indie route. Guys who like romance are eager for gender-swapped tropes and my work features a lot of those (though they’re still written for both men and women).

If you’re not published, which route do you plan on taking?

N/A

Do you have any odd/strange/fascinating rejection stories to share?

Only a heartbreaking near-miss that almost got my category romance across the finish line. There’s always next time. Don’t give up on me, Harlequin!

What is your writing routine like?

As a holder of a “good enough” job, I try to work on my writing at least two hours a day. I succeed most days. When the going gets tough, I fall back on an informal pomodoro method. I have a proper tomato timer that ticks alarmingly like a bomb—the secret is to shut it in a drawer so it doesn’t give you a heart attack when it goes off.

What do you see ahead in your career?

I’m still working to establish a foundational body of work. I published a fantasy last year and I’m just about to publish my second novel, a shifter PNR, this year. I’m hoping to one day finish a series, and I still want to submit to the trad market in the future.

Team Edward or team Jacob from Twilight and why?

I am 100% Team Edythe from Life and Death. Who wouldn’t want to be rescued by a sexy centuries-old vampire lady?

How can readers find you online?

My author website is still being assembled as I type this, so my Patreon is the only online presence I currently have. My page can be found at patreon.com/krtreadway.
