Please tell our readers a bit about yourself in 50 words or less.
Yvonne Wilburn is a West Georgia writer who enjoys creating stories in fantasy, sci-fi, paranormal and speculative romantic fiction. She has also worked on non-fiction, graphic novels, and local history projects. When she’s not writing, she’s a mom and a day trader who loves coffee, chocolate, and finding time to work out.
Do you write full time or part-time?
Part time, as my daughter is in half-a-day preschool.
What brought you to FF&P?
I renewed after accidentally letting it lapse. This is what I write and love. I believe I originally joined during the COVID019 shutout. I had a newborn, so I don’t think I filled out this interview. I was probably between naps.
What do you hope to get out of FF & P?
Tips, always-ways to improve, new acquaintances.
What genres do you write?
Fantasy, sci-fi, paranormal and speculative romantic fiction. Some may say romantasy, that term is still new to me.
Are you traditional, hybrid, or indie published? Why did you go this route?
Indie, because it fits my needs. Especially for local history, since the interest is very focused on the region.
What is your writing routine like?
My daughter is in preschool half-a-day. I’m able to write in the mornings, then have lunch with her. Sometimes my mother-in-law is able to watch her after lunch until her dad can pick her up in the evening. Occasionally, when I’m very inspired, I can cut my daily workout short and maybe find an hour before bed. Or, do the whole-walk-on-the-treadmill and try to write on my phone balance act.
Name three of your favorite sci-fi or fantasy authors.
Ursula K. Le Guin, Gail Carson Levine, Ilona Andrews.
If you could meet anyone, imaginary or real, in sci-fi or fantasy, who would it be and why?
The late Carrie Fisher, for inspiring me to love scifi as a young girl. I saw her in a panel at Atlanta’s Dragon*con, but never met her.
You’re stranded on a desert island, and you can only have one book. Which book do you bring with you and why?
North & South, because I love Mr. Thornton. He’s so passionate and deeply vulnerable.
Tell us about your latest release(s) and what’s coming next for you.
I’m currently working on some exciting projects: a Halloween themed twice on Cinderella, a picture book dedicated to my daughter, a biography of my great-uncle who was a POW during the Bataan Death March, and an enemies-to-lovers sorcerer romance.
